    Catholic Schools' activation to partner with Special Olympics USA Games
    July 1 - 6, 2018

    The Diversified Learners Committee has positioned itself as a conduit of information and volunteer activation to the Catholic schools of western Washington. From July 1-6, 2018, almost 4,000 Special Olympics athletes, coaches and representatives from across the U.S., along with tens of thousands of volunteers and spectators, will gather in Seattle for six days of national-caliber competition.

    • 12/5/17 - CYO Athletics Leadership joins our partnership to serve Special Olympics USA Games 2018.
    • 12/17- Knights of Columbus commitment! USA Games Family Fourth of July Party at UW Husky Stadium! 200 General Volunteers needed for 2 shifts to support the Knights of Columbus as they provide the people power behind the 4th of July party sponsored by Coke Cola products! The Knights will setup, distribute the food, tear down after the party! 2 shifts available - July 4th, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM and/or July 4th, 2018 from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM. THANK YOU!

    • TEAM FRANNIE Congratulations to Frannie Ronan, 2nd grade student at St. Madeleine Sophie School. Frannie will be the youngest of the 4000 athletes participating in the USA Games!     • SPECIAL THANKS to BISHOP BLANCHET HIGH SCHOOL and especially 8 very generous faculty/staff for sharing 8 BBHS parking slots for 8 mini-vans supporting Special Olympics logistics in June! AWESOME!
    • Looking for SINGERS on July 1st! Opening Ceremony for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games will be on July 1 at Husky Stadium. One of the highlights of the ceremony will be the 2,018 person choir. The event will be broadcast live by ESPN on ABC and we expect more than 50,000 spectators to come and watch this event that will kick off a week of competition and celebration of athletes with intellectual disabilities which will promote acceptance and inclusion.

    • April 15 - BIG day to register to volunteer with the Archdiocese of Seattle group! After this date, we open our volunteering options to the wider community so we secure needed volunteers.
    • Saturday, April 21: 11 AM Inclusion Mass with Archbishop Sartain followed by the Family Dance at NOON hosted by O'Dea High School Gym (ALL FAMILIES WELCOME!)

    May 2018
    • Homemade – Schoolmade SIGNS to honor the SO Athletes! If 73 schools each made 10 posters we would have 730 signs of solidarity and support for athletes of 50 states! (Sign sizes: Hand-held signs 14 x 14 inch-max or up to 3 x 5 feet for group posters) Bring finished signs to the May 17, 2018 Principals’ Leadership Meeting and we will deliver on your behalf.

    • Friday, June 29: SEATAC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT! It’s AIRPORT WELCOME DAY and we have shifts for Greeters, Baggage Claim Helpers, and Guides to Light Rail! Please help us welcome the Special Olympics athletes, their families, and SO delegates!
    • Saturday, June 30: 7:00 PM. MASS FOR THE ATHLETES, their families and SO delegates and friends with Archbishop J. Peter Sartain. University of Washington Campus, Kane Hall, Room 130. Facilitated by the Inclusion Ministry Committee, OCS leadership, Young Adult Ministries, and the Knights of Columbus.
    • Sunday, July 1: 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM Opening Ceremonies! University of Washington's HUSKY Stadium: The Parade of Athletes, entertainment, and the Lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron to open the Games! 9 AM to 12:30 PM – Join us for the mile long CHEER LINE to honor all SO Athletes as they gather for the Parade of Athletes! Families who volunteer will have access into Opening Ceremonies. Stay and be FANs IN THE STANDs!
